The Training

Aikido in Tampa
Aikido training is heavily focused on fundamentals and techniques. It is through the understanding and mastery of fundamentals and techniques that an Aikido practitioner gains the ability to control the outcome of a conflict without causing or receiving harm.

The Florida Aikido Center offers no set “beginner” or “advanced” classes. Students are paired-up based on the techniques being taught and each individual's physical capabilities and skill level. You will not be asked to do a technique you are not capable of physically accomplishing, nor will you be asked to attempt a technique of which you have not received sufficient training.  Please follow this link:  belts and rank for more information about testing requirements and rank.

The training is not easy – you will get tired and you will get sweaty. Of course, the level and intensity of training is typically tailored to reflect the skill level of the students in attendance and any injuries or limitations he/she/they may have. But, everybody works hard and everybody learns. Please follow this link:  what to expect in class for more information.

Some students may wish to buy books or DVDs about Aikido. While this shows great initiative and is encouraged, it is in no way necessary. DVDs and other reference materials may be purchased at Wolfpack Martial Arts Supply off of Busch Blvd. in Tampa near Chamberlain High School.

If you wish to do research about Aikido online, there are several Aikido posting boards and forums for students to share information and learn from one another. Additionally, Wikipedia is a wellspring of historical and technical information, and YouTube hosts thousands of videos showing Aikido techniques and weapon kata (forms) with Aikido weapons.
